If you’ve never had vein work done, here’s what you can expect when you visit Physicians Vein Care. Your first visit is an initial consultation to determine whether or not you need further evaluation. 

If it is likely you have venous disease and need further evaluation you will be referred for a full medical ultrasound.

Once the ultrasound has been completed and reviewed, your next visit will be with Dr. Burress.  During this visit he will explain in detail your ultrasound results and individualize a course of treatment for you, explaining the different procedures and medical issues surrounding them.  And most importantly, he will educate you on the basics of venous disease.

It’s at this visit that the final decision treatment decision will be made.

Here are a few of our services:
  • Always Free Initial Consultation: Our goal truly is to give you the information you need to make an enlightened decision about your leg concerns.
  • Ultrasound Evaluation – This exam is extensive and thorough, even more detailed than your typical hospital level venous exam.
  • EVTA Treatment – Endovenous Thermal Ablation –  is the gold standard of varicose vein treatment and is used to treat large veins.
    • Endovenous Thermal Ablation is a treatment alternative to surgical stripping of varicose veins.  With ultrasound visualization, a small catheter or tube is inserted into the damaged vein, usually through a needle.  Thermal energy, or heat, is then delivered inside the vein, which causes the vein to collapse and seal shut.  The procedure is typically done in the doctor’s office under local anesthesia.  Afterwards, a leg wrap or prescription compression stocking is usually placed on the treated leg for approximately 48 hours.  Patients are able to walk immediately after the procedure and most individuals are able to return to work (or play) the same day.
  • EVCA Treatment – Endovenous Chemical Ablation (Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy)
    • Also known as ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy, endovenous chemical ablation is another treatment of varicose veins.  With this procedure, a medicine, called a Sclerosin is injected into the vein while the doctor observes the injection process on an ultrasound screen.  This allows veins that are below the surface of the skin to be treated.  Since these veins cannot be seen visually, they would otherwise require surgical removal.  This technique causes the vein to collapse and seal shut, and may be performed with liquid or foamed sclerosant.  The procedure is performed in the doctor’s office and may not require local anesthesia.  Your leg will be wrapped for 24 hours following the EVCA procedure.  Most patients are able to walk immediately after the procedure and return to normal activities immediately.
  • Nerve Conduction Studies
    • Nerve Conduction Studies are available to help differentiate leg pain from a venous origin versus a neurological origin.
